Virginia horse country meets a London townhouse in this 13,000 square foot remodel of a previously-unfinished new build. While it was a challenge to create intimate spaces within such a large footprint, we made some architectural changes to make room for several seating areas to accommodate large family gatherings. We removed an elevator shaft and instead added a custom free-hanging spiral staircase to the third floor apartment, that recalls the main circular staircase that is the featured architectural element in the home. Natural woods, stone details, and custom steel doors give the home a sense of permanence and presence.
